December 2021 Monthly Review

  • was exposed to COVID by someone who showed up to an outdoor party knowing they had been exposed
  • still feeling left out from a theater show that a group remounted without me

  • taught TS Intro Python Course (cohort was very lovely)
  • UWSA Retreat, getting more involved in Undoing White Supremacy Austin leadership
  • saw my first live shows since pandemic start
  • dancing and witchy shit with Minx + Muse
  • weekly hangouts with Diane
  • interviews for computational communication professor search committee
  • performed on stage for first time since pandemic (Maestro)
  • weekly rpgs with Peter, Heath, and Marc
  • daily walks
  • daily naps
  • hired by UT to do STEMprov again
  • taught TS Intermediate Python Course (many people signed up especially because Jo and I were teaching it)
  • Christmas at Shannon and Gus’s house
  • inner child work
  • thrift store shopping with Danielle and giving myself permission to love and hate clothing
  • decided on direction for twitter analysis
  • revised race evasive manuscript according to last(?) edits from coauthors and sent it out to get second opinions
  • submitted a proposal to ATHE (my first theater conference)
  • got my covid booster shot and my allergy shot

buds

  • friendship with Scarlett
  • friendship with Danielle
  • prioritizing resting
  • realizing I am probably autistic and reframing so many things
  • transcribing and analyzing STEM graduate student interviews about science communication

  • noticing how my own stories cause me stress
  • trusting other people (in collaborations, in friendships to let me know if they are upset)
  • publishing pipeline new system for writing practice
  • vulnerability of getting feedback on projects I care about
  • being open to being wrong, to being transformed
  • making new friends (Danielle and Scarlett)
  • trying to show up to stuff/ trying not to overbook myself
  • performed on stage for first time since pandemic — it didn’t feel good for many reasons
  • it’s probably not personal! it’s probably not about me!
  • working on my body image stuff and internalized fatphobia
  • getting excited about improv again by talking to people that want to explore beyond what is usually done in Austin theaters
  • walking and napping everyday really making my routine more lush
  • taking initiative and positive persistance
  • (starting to) come to terms with being autistic
  • permission to have fun
  • inner child work
  • having difficulty getting excited about upcoming travel knowing it will likely be cancelled :(
  • Marc being sweet to me, making me coffee in the morning
  • great sex with Marc
  • being more intentional about desire with Marc (intimacy and security have been wonderful during pandemic but I wonder about desire)
  • resisting the urgency of the world, of academia and slowing down
  • enjoying making new friends that have done their inner work
  • working on my routines, especially my evening one
  • struggling with getting my motorcycle up and running (skills gap)
  • trying out an intermediate pole class again and really enjoying a course that stretches my skills (mixed in with other ones that I can just feel sensual in)
  • seeking more ease by waking up when it feels more natural (8am) but missing being awake before the world is
  • word of mouth game is strong for STEMprov — UT hired me again
  • lowering the friction on stuff while also preserving my spoons
  • dressing up and looking hot going out
